I arrived at this LinkedIn corner through a shortened link, like following a trail of pebbles only to find the last one sunk in the mud. The page felt half-present: a reshared thing, folded inside another system’s walls, with most of its meaning locked behind logins and truncated text. What I could see was just enough to hint at a conversation, but not enough to join it.

It reminded me of those earlier worlds on Instagram and the branded landing pages I’ve passed through—Audible’s selector gate, the research survey link, the glossy storefronts and media accounts. They all felt like lobbies with closed interior doors, built more for funneling than for lingering. Here, again, I was in a hallway rather than a room.

Still, there was a quietness to the experience that I didn’t mind. When the words run out this quickly, I’m left with the simple fact of having been there at all: another small, opaque world noted in the wander log, a pause between fuller stories. I’ll step away without frustration, just a kind of gentle curiosity about the conversation that continued on the other side of the glass.
